Fruit Snacks With A Twist

Updated: Sep 18

Simple recipe for a clean, high-protein twist on your favorite fruity snacks

These days we're all trying to hit protein goals but let’s be real— it’s easy to fall short of getting enough in your daily diet. That’s why I’m kicking off a little series of easy recipes designed to sneak in some extra protein, making it easier than ever to fuel your body and feel your best.

Who doesn't love fruit snacks? It's one of those treats I don't think we ever grow out of. Unfortunately a lot of the classics at the store are now filled with sugar, preservatives, and dyes. But what if I told you there’s a way to enjoy that same chewy, fruity goodness with a healthy twist? Enter: homemade fruit snacks made with beef gelatin. Not only are these gummies naturally sweet and free from all the junk, but they also sneak in a solid dose of protein. It's my newest snack obsession that’s good for you too. These little guys are so, so simple to make, are ready in under and hour, and are a great way to use up fruit that's past its prime.

  1. Cut up your fruit of choice and blend it up with a little water.

  2. Put your fruit mixture in a pan but do not turn the heat on yet.

  3. Sprinkle on your beef gelatin (I love this Hearthy Foods grass fed gelatin) and let it sit until the surface becomes rippled, you want a ratio of 1 cup fruit mixture to 2 tablespoons gelatin.

  4. Turn on heat and stir until all gelatin is fully dissolved.

  5. Pour into molds of choice and let cool in the fridge (most only take 20 minutes to cool) I love these little gummy bear and dino molds.

  6. Pop them out and enjoy!

My Hot Tips

  • Don't use pineapple or kiwi they are the only two fruits that don't react well with the gelatin and of course they are two of the first fruits I tried this with.

  • I love sour candy and you can get that effect by tossing your fruit snacks in a little Calm magnesium powder for a sour coating.

  • I like to blend my fruit up so I get the fiber as well but you can juice the fruit or even just buy fruit juice to use.

Such an easy swap for less sugar and preservatives in your diet while still incorporating the snacks that you're craving. Let me know if you try them I'd love to hear from you!
