Hosting a luxurious Thanksgiving doesn’t have to mean an over-the-top budget or endless hours of prep. With just a few thoughtful touches, some that you can buy and others that are totally free, you can elevate your Thanksgiving celebration and make it feel truly special. Whether it’s a beautiful tablescape, moody lighting, or an elegant drink these effortless ideas will help you host a Thanksgiving that feels like you plus a little luxury.
One of my favorite home hacks for hosting is setting up a wax melt near the entryway, so guests are greeted by an amazing scent the moment they walk in. I swear by Happy Wax melts— not only do they smell incredible, but they’re also nontoxic. My favorite scents are Palo Santo and White Birch, which bring a natural, earthy vibe to any space. This Thanksgiving I’m planning to try their Fall Pack (I'm especially excited about the White Pumpkin scent) for a festive touch. Another easy way to create a cozy, welcoming vibe is with background music. A chill '90s country or jazz dinner party playlist sets the perfect relaxed, inviting mood.
One of my favorite ways to make the holidays feel extra special is by serving a signature cocktail. Specialty drinks add a unique touch, and you probably have most of the ingredients on hand already! For Thanksgiving, a pomegranate cocktail is my go-to, it’s a crowd-pleaser with a festive twist. I also love an after-dinner cocktail, it encourages everyone to linger at the table, chatting and connecting, that’s the best part of Thanksgiving. If you're looking for inspiration, Cocktail Wave has a fantastic roundup of 33 after-dinner drink ideas. You can’t go wrong with a coffee-based option like an espresso martini or a classic Godfather (a simple mix of whiskey and amaretto).
For an even more elevated feel, serve your cocktails in beautiful glassware. Assorted brown wine glasses bring a modern, fall-inspired touch, while vintage green glasses add character. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors, local thrift shops often have fun, unique glassware that’s perfect for the season.
To make your Thanksgiving table feel luxurious and elevated, try a few simple but impactful touches. Start with linen napkins in deep, rich jewel tones for an instantly upscale feel. Adding velvet accents is another great way to bring warmth and charm, whether it’s a velvet table runner, the new bow garland trend, or even a velvet hair accessory. Lighting also sets the mood beautifully; use plenty of unscented or battery-operated candles for a warm, inviting glow.
This gorgeous bow garland from Anthropolgie is $128 but could be easily recreated with these velvet bows from Amazon for $20, and they come in a variety of colors.
For a minimal yet cozy tablescape, let the food be the star and add small details like vintage-style candle votives, little pumpkins, or a fabric table runner. Dried citrus slices can also bring in a sweet seasonal feel. Last year I covered the table with brown butcher paper and left out markers, this lets your friends doodle on the table and it's a cute way to label dishes. These touches keep it elevated but effortless.
Just really enjoy yourself and lean into your unique style. Don't be afraid to mix and match colors or DIY some of those trendy, high end touches. Remember, Thanksgiving is about gratitude and spending time with those you love, so have fun with hosting but keep the focus on what truly matters. After all, the best dinners are the ones filled with laughter, love, and a good pomegranate martini.
