It’s holiday party time! This year is extra special for me because it’s the first time I haven’t lived in the same state as my family, and I’m beyond excited to see everyone and celebrate together. I’ve also hit that stage in life where bringing hostess gifts feels like such a fun (and meaningful) way to show appreciation. After hosting a holiday myself, I now understand just how much effort goes into it! Treat your hostess to something thoughtful and special— think of a gift they wouldn’t normally splurge on for themselves. Maybe it’s a little indulgent, maybe it’s delightfully impractical, but it’s all about making them feel appreciated.
You can’t go wrong with a classic bottle of wine, champagne, or even a fun sparkling cider. It’s easy, simple, and perfect if you need to grab something last minute. If you’re looking to mix it up this year, consider something trendy like Kin Euphorics or a non-alcoholic spirit—both of which have been having a major moment lately. Another fun option is a premixed bottled cocktail or a unique set of bitters to elevate their bar game. And if you’re unsure about their drink preferences, an electric wine opener or a marble wine chiller is a decadent and universally appreciated choice.
Flowers are always a great option, but whether you arrange them yourself or pick up a bouquet make sure they’re already in a vase and ready to go. It’s a thoughtful gesture but handing over flowers that still need to be trimmed and arranged can unintentionally add to your host’s to-do list. Keep it simple and stress-free for them.

A big, cozy seasonal soy candle is always a crowd pleaser. You really can’t go wrong with a great non-toxic candle that makes the whole house smell amazing. Or if you’re feeling a little fancy go the Martha Stewart route with long-stem tapered candles in fun, festive colors they’re super chic and perfect for dressing up a table.
Treats are always a hit! Think something like a box of famous peppermint bark, goodies from a local candy shop, or classic See’s candy. If you know your host is a tea lover, a tin of loose-leaf tea with a cute infuser is a thoughtful option. Another fun idea are gourmet oil and vinegars. I once got a bourbon balsamic and lemon olive oil as a gift, and they were such a fun surprise—they feel so indulgent, not the kind of thing you’d typically buy for yourself.
If you really want to make your hostess feel extra loved, go for something thoughtful they can keep long-term that also makes their home feel special. A coffee table book is always a stylish choice, or you could pick a cool cookbook. Fancy cookbooks are such a fun gift since they’re not something most people splurge on for themselves. Martha Stewart’s 100th cookbook of her all-time favorites and Dolly Parton’s new cookbook are both great picks this year.
Hit up a local pottery shop for a small, unique piece. My mother-in-law recently gifted me a gorgeous piece of pottery from a shop I love, and it felt so personal and thoughtful. For something fresh and lively, a plant is always a win. A potted herb for the kitchen or a small olive tree is both practical and beautiful, perfect for bringing a little freshness inside during those winter months.
